is telehealth right for you?

What you need:

  • High-speed internet.

  • A smartphone or tablet/computer.

  • A space that is confidential and comfortable to you (headphones/earbuds and a sound machine can help to ensure confidentiality).

Benefits:

  • If you are busy with school, work, kids, it can be challenging to make it to an office! Feel free to engage in a session from home or work without commuting through traffic or trying to locate a parking spot.

  • If you do not have easy access to public transportation or experience transportation-related issues, telehealth appointments allow easier access to mental health care.

  • If you experience social anxiety or simply enjoy staying home, you can engage in telehealth sessions from the comfort of your own space.

  • If you have health-related concerns (i.e. an immunocompromised system), telehealth provides mental health support without risk to your health.

  • Most insurances offer reimbursements for telehealth sessions.

things to consider:

  • If your current needs are high-risk (i.e. experiencing persistent suicidal or homicidal ideation or are experiencing consistent/imminent intent to harm self or others), telehealth is not the appropriate level of service for you. Please seek out in-person services.

  • Take the opportunity to notice what you may need before or after your appointment. Prior to telehealth, the commute to and from an appointment allowed time to prepare and decompress what you brought into your session. Allow there to be buffer time if you need it.
