Frequently Asked Questions

  • I do a consultation with any prospective client (ages 14+). Our consultation lasts anywhere between 15-30 minutes. We have a brief conversation about why you are seeking out therapy. Finding a therapist can be similar to trying on an outfit: you want something you feel good in. This initial conversation allows us both to see if we’re a good therapeutic fit for each other.

  • You can expect curiosity, respect, honesty, and my best efforts towards making the therapy space safe for you. A huge part of that is practicing non-judgment best I can. I am firm, kind and hold accountability for myself and my clients.

I often say consults are a good teaser trailer for how I will show up in therapy. I'll be the same person in the consult as I am in the therapy room. You can determine from our initial conversation if we are a fit for each other.

  • Therapy can be scary, exciting, fun, heart-breaking, heart-warming, energizing, exhausting. All of it! With therapy, there are risks and benefits. The risks of turning towards the challenging hard parts of life are that it can bring up complicated emotions and reveal unhelpful coping patterns. The benefits of taking a look at the uncomfortable truths are that you get to reflect on those rich complicated emotions, own what you need to own, and set the rules of engagement in your own life.

  • A lot of people who seek me out struggle with pervasive anxiety, some form of trauma, or ongoing depression. I bring a trauma-informed approach into the therapy space.

  • My niche is helping adults who are working through abandonment, emotional neglect, and acculturation issues. I work with women, with a special focus on women of color who want to break free from system-dictated terms.

I work with ages 14+ and with couples.

  • Yes, I love working with relationships! I have training in Emotion-Focused Couple Therapy (EFT) and Psychobiological Approach to Couple Therapy (PACT). I integrate both modalities with a humanistic approach to address the issue in the relational pattern rather than the individuals in the relationship.

I have worked with couples experiencing trauma. If there are further questions, we can discuss your desired work in a consult to see if we’re a good fit.

  • Yes, and am honored that I do.

Trauma is a spectrum, I have worked with all forms of it. The world is messy and stressful. Often, things happen to us that are out of our control. Anyone who is paying attention to their lives has likely encountered some form of trauma before they make it to adulthood. Trauma is the residual experience of a highly impactful and or stressful event that registered on your central nervous system and keeps the alert system switched on. Sometimes, even when we don’t want it too. Trauma is not your fault. I use a combination of talk therapy and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing therapy (EMDR) to address what happened to you and how you’re coping through it.

  • I accept most major credit cards at the time of the appointment. I do not bill insurance, however, I provide you with a superbill at the end of each month that you can submit to your insurance company. Before booking an appointment, I suggest calling the number on the back of your insurance card inquiring about your "out of network" therapy benefits and learning about how to submit an out-of-network reimbursement claim. Some clients also use their FSA or HSA accounts.

Lastly, some work places offer mental health benefits or wellness funds that can be used towards mental health services. If you feel comfortable, review your company policy to see if those funds are available to you.
